this page says what figure-1.com keeps about you, what it does with it, and what stays yours.

what the site keeps

• if you have an account: your username, your email address if you gave one, and a scrambled form of your password. the password itself is never stored. what you saved or follow and any work you collected are kept with it, and only you can see them unless you put your name on a work.
• if you use “continue with google” or “continue with apple”: the id that google or apple gives the site for you, your name and your email address. the site asks for nothing else. it cannot read your mail, files, contacts or anything else in that account.
• what you put in your room: objects, collections, images, video, sound, writing and notes.
• what you write to other people: guestbook notes, chat messages and knocks on a locked door.
• if you request a room, subscribe to the newsletter or send work to the shop: what you typed into the form, and the ip address it came from. the ip address is only used to stop one sender flooding the form. making an account keeps the ip address for an hour, for the same reason.

cookies

the site sets a few cookies and each has one job. one keeps you logged in. one remembers the name you picked as a visitor. one remembers which locked rooms you have opened. two short ones exist only while you are signing in with google or apple.

there are no advertising cookies and nothing from other companies that follows you around the web.

what the site counts

the site counts visits for its own use, to see how it is used. no cookie is set for it, and the numbers are never shared.

what it is used for

to run your room, to sign you in, and to send the email you asked for, such as an invitation or a password reset. nothing is sold, and nothing is shared for advertising.

what other people can see

your username, your room and what is in it are public, unless you lock the door or keep an object as a draft. your email address is never shown in your room or to visitors. only the site's admins and curators can see it.

your work

everything you put in your room stays yours. you keep the ownership and the copyright, and the site claims neither.

putting a work in your room lets the site show it there and in the places that lead people to your room: the homepage, the list of rooms, and the preview a shared link shows. that ends when you delete the work.

a curator may put a public work on the homepage. when that happens you get an email, if you gave an address, and one link in it takes the work off and lets the curator know.

your work joins another room's collection only when you say yes. nothing goes in the shop, is sold, or is used to promote the site without your explicit approval.

the site never uses your work to train ai, and never sells or gives it to anyone for that.

who else handles it

• cloudflare hosts the site, its database, its files and its video. like any host, it sees the ip address of each request.
• resend delivers the site's email.
• google or apple, if you choose to sign in with them.
• the stage page loads a typeface from google fonts, so google sees the ip address of a visit to that page.
• some objects are embeds or load from another site, such as youtube, tiktok, soundcloud, figma or a museum's collection. when you open one, that site sees your visit and may set cookies of its own.

removing things

you can delete anything in your room, and deleting an object deletes its files too. once you have a password you can disconnect google or apple in your room's settings. you can also delete your account yourself there, with delete my account at the end of your settings. your room, every object and collection in it, their files, what you wrote in other rooms, and your account are deleted. a file is kept only while something else on the site still uses it, or when it was added less than a day before. to ask about privacy on the site write to [email protected].
